Typical adobe Berber villages nestle on the mountainsides and along the river, small terraces and fields are cared for to produce all the fruits and vegetables, animals are tended to and age old traditions are passed down through generations. It is a pure and splendid place where silence is only disturbed by singing birds, the streams and the wagtails. Ourika is famous because of its pottery and its crystalline minerals. This area has many artisans producing crafts for the souks. Further up the valley as it winds its way to the village of Setti Fatma, road side and riverside restaurants line the way with delicious tagines cooking on smouldering charcoal fires waiting to be chosen for lunch. We take you to visit a Berber house where you can have tea, and perhaps visit the old mill where they still use traditional methods. If time allows and you have suitable footwear you can hire a local guide to take you up the waterfalls at Setti Fatma. Seven falls bring you up into the lush vegetation and give you fantastic panoramic views of the landscape. The Ourika Valley tour is one of the most popular for very good reason; it really is a fantastic day trip from Marrakech.
- Day 1
Marrakech To Ourika Valley
A visit to the Souk Tnine de L’orika and to the women Argan Cooperative, a stroll at Setti Fatma highly appreciated for its beautiful streams and 7 waterfalls
Take the day off to escape from Marrakech and visit the Souk Tnine de L’orika, the gateway to Ourika Valley,
the most accessible valley in the High Atlas from Marrakech, around 45 minutes’ drive from the city. On the way, stop at an Argan Cooperative to see women cultivating the Argan nut to make Argan oil and cosmetic products. The cooperative is run only by women and you will have the opportunity to taste Argan products from this Cooperative.
You will have the chance to visit the Souk to admire or if you wish to shop at local crafts.
Visit Setti Fatma, a favorite weekend destination for many Moroccans. Highly appreciated for its beautiful streams and 7 waterfalls. We will visit the famous tomb of Setti Fatma. In the mid-August an exciting four day festival takes place. Drive around the valley to take photos of the views of green terraces, surrounding Atlas mountains, rocky villages and the seven waterfalls that surround the village. An outstanding scenario. If you feel adventurous, you can climb up rock carvings, as it is the most suitable area for gentle hiking and trekking. Return to Marrakech
